Two charged over Western Union heist

Two suspects have been charged with terrorism for the armed robbery at the Western Union Money Transfer in October 2016. The two men charged with the crime are Ali Shaneez of Ga. Kondey and Mohamed Fairooz from F. Magoodhoo.

The robbery had taken place during midnight, when a group of masked men had entered the building and tied up the employees at knife point.

Police had earlier said over MVR6 million stolen in the heist had been recovered.

A total of MVR1 million and USD 321,000 had been recovered which had reportedly been dumped by the robbers to aid their getaway.

The first hearing of the trial will be held at 2:00 PM at the Criminal Court on Tuesday.
