The government in four years has completed the construction of 47 harbour projects throughout the archipelago worth MVR1.6 billion, housing minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu claimed Sunday.
The minister on Twitter shared statistics showing the amount the government has spent and is expected to spend on harbour projects across the island nation.
According to the statistics shared by the minister, the government had spent MVR284 million on nine harbours while MVR315 million funded the same number the following year. In 2016, the government completed a dozen harbours worth MVR402 million with seventeen more constructed this year worth MVR614 million.
"The prority president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has given to construct harbours: MVR1.6 billion worth of harbours completed," Muizzu said in his Tweet.
The minister also revealed that in addition to the completed projects, construction of 31 harbours worth MVR900 million are underway which would take the amount spent by the government on harbour construction to MVR2.5 billion by the end of 2018.
