Job termination cases mount over MDP primary

Several individuals employed at state owned corporations have taken to their social media profiles or handles to share unceremonious sacking of their held jobs over casting vote in MDP primary.

Many of have complained they have lost their jobs from state owned corporations due to participating in the internal voting of prime opposition Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) on Wednesday, May 30.

A State Trading Organization (STO) Laamu atoll branch employee, Ibrahim Mohamed was terminated from his job on Friday stating his actions tarnished the reputation of the state owned corporation.

Ibrahim Mohamed had shared a picture of him while casting vote at the primary on popular social media platform Facebook; which he captioned with affirmation of his support to former president Mohamed Nasheed.

The recently sacked employee asserts that he was previously advised by STO not to post or share opinion supporting the opposition party. However he was not informed and neither warned of the 'repercussions' regarding his social media posts.

Ibrahim served as an employee of STO for a tenure of 10 years and six months; admits he had never acted to violate or tarnish the corporation's policies or its reputation.

Another individual who worked at the Kaadedhdhoo Regional Airport was terminated from their job under the pretext of amendment to employee structure. The individual suspected on their social media handle, of foul play from the airport's management due since the individual was sacked from job after the MDP primary.

While many are sharing anecdotes regarding dismissal from work for their participation in the MDP primary similar cases of job termination rose previously from various others for unceremonious dismissal from job due to their participation in opposition led rallies or protests.
