Maldives Customs nab 6.87 kilograms of drugs

Maldives Customs have confiscated a total of 6.87 kilograms of drugs from luggage of two separate arrivals to Maldives.

Customs authority further detailed their first detainee was held at airport checkpoint due to erratic behavior on June 29. The Bangladesh expat traveling from Cochin, India had carried items strongly believed to be illicit narcotic substances wrapped in two blankets.

Authorities had, after thorough investigation, learned the wrapped substance to be a known drug named Cannabis. The items weighed, including the wrapping, a total of 4.828 kilograms.

Another individual aged 34 years was arrested on June 25 traveling from Bangladesh through India-transit, who was carrying illegal narcotic substances.

He was held at Customs checkpoint at airport due to his abnormal behavior as well. Upon close inspection it was revealed he was carrying a total of 2.053 kilograms of Cannabis.

The confiscated drugs along with their apparent mules have been handed over to Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
