Authority nabbed drugs in 2018 reach over 22.9 kilos

In a string of several drug busts Maldives Customs Service have confiscated more than 22.9 kilograms of narcotic substances smuggled into Maldives so far in 2018.

Customs report the total amount drug busted comes from 54 distinct cases throughout the year. This marks the first ever time the authority has revealed such a statistics.

Out of the 54 drug bust cases, 44 of smuggling originated through postal packages as per Customs. The comprised total weight of the substances confiscated in these incidents reached 4.7 kilograms.

Another 12.7 kilograms worth of narcotic substances were smuggled into Maldives through the use of drug mules.

Drug peddlers had also attempted to contraband narcotics substances through sea, which however was intercepted by authorities. A total of 5.3 kilograms of substances were confiscated from the said bust.

Bangladesh travelers have attempted to smuggle drugs into Maldives in an alarming rate for the past month while authorities claim 9.6 kilograms of drugs were busted from these individuals.
