Police intervene deposed lawmakers from parliament entry

Maldives Police Service officers have intervened the dozen deposed lawmakers from entering premises of parliament on Wednesday.

The twelve lawmakers had claimed they will attend Wednesday's sitting on Tuesday after Maldives Supreme Court's recent verdict on their case. The apex court was unable to come to a full conclusion regarding the dozen lawmakers' eviction from their parliament seats during the most recent hearing.

Security detail was tightened around the parliament perimeter on Wednesday morning, approximately around 08:30hrs to possibly block the deposed lawmakers from entering parliament venue.

Previous attempts by the deposed lawmakers to enter parliament premises were met with hostile intervention from military and police officers.

Officers of Maldives Police refused granting access to the dozen lawmakers on Wednesday from entering into parliament when they reached the cordoned off area for the sitting scheduled at 13:00hrs.

Due to authority refusal to allow access into parliament the dozen lawmakers expressed their concern while present close to the parliament vicinity.
