Opposition candidate pledges new airport in Thaa Atoll

Opposition alliance presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday pledged to build another domestic airport in Thaa Atoll during an opposition government.

Though, Thimarafushi island in the Atoll already has an airport, residents in other islands in the Atoll situated far from Thimarafushi are forced to spend thousands to get to the airport.

During an ongoing campaign visit to the Atoll, the veteran lawmaker said Thaa Atoll remains the furthest from the capital Male which makes air travel more significant to its residents.

"An opposition government would consider this and find a solution," the Hinnavaru lawmaker pledged.

Solih also aimed a dig at the government accusing it of launching unrealistic projects in the Atolls to garner votes ahead of the presidential elections slated for September 23.
