Authorities on Wednesday have arrested two deposed lawmakers from the island of Gaaf Dhaal Gahdhoo.
Maldives Police arrested lawmaker Mohamed Ameeth and Abdulla Ahmed who were visiting the island to attend opposition coalition's campaign rally. Gahdhoo is the birth island of lawmaker Ameeth.
Police have not disclosed reasons for the sudden apprehension of the two lawmakers.
Interestingly while the lawmakers were arrested from Gahdhoo, president Abdulla Yameen is currently visiting the atoll as well as islands of Gaaf Alif for campaign rallies.
