Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) on Wednesday decided to slap a fine of MVR2 million on opposition aligned RaajjeTV.
The fine comes due to a specific content aired on the channel which according to the commission violated broadcasting regulations.
An official of RaajjeTV confirmed the station was fined for allegedly airing contents against incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The station was scrutinized for compromising national security with the content they aired.
The opposition aligned channel has several previous run-ins with the broadcasting commission for several alleged violations. The channel had previously been fined for similar offenses.
