Maldives' tourism promotion body has planned a colorful ceremony to welcome the one millionth tourist scheduled to arrive on Sunday.
Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) said a special ceremony would be held to mark the occasion at the country's main airport on Sunday.
According to official tourism statistics, the luxury island destination had received 848,847 by the end of July which is a 10.1 percent increase from the corresponding period last year.
Tourist arrivals to arguably the best tropical destination in the world had floated between 1.1-1.2 million for the past four years.
The government through its main tourism promotion company, Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) has launched several fresh initiatives to market the country abroad.
