A seven year old girl who was in intensive care after a bag of cement fell on top of her as in the capital Male has succumbed to her injuries on Monday.
The incident occurred around 10.45am in Maafannu ward on Sunday.
CCTV footage from a nearby building showed the girl walking just ahead of what appears to be her nanny before a bag of cement falls on top of her head.
The girl appears to be unconscious before a bystander picks her up and hoists her over his shoulder before rushing away.
The girl who was a child of Bangladeshi expatriates working in the capital had undergone emergency surgery on Sunday and had been intensive care.
An official of the state run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said the girl had succumbed to her injuries a short while ago.
Immediately after the tragic incident, the authorities had enforced a city wide suspension on construction.
Male city council meanwhile had suspended all construction permits issued to the local contractor on Sunday saying that the renowned firm W-Construction did not have the necessary permits to carry out construction on the site in question.
