Maldives Customs Service has revealed that 32 kilograms of drugs and intoxicants were siezed in 83 seperate cases last year.

11 cases drug importation via air travel and 68 cases of attempted drug entry through the postal system were identified in the annual statistics publicized by Customs on Monday. Three cases accounts for attempts made via air cargo and one case pertains to sea freight.

Details of drugs siezed during 2018:

Cannabis: 17,165.78g
Cocaine: 563.00g
Heroin: 10,840.69g
NPS: 664.26g
Ecstacy: 3383.70g

According to the statistics, the number of drug-related importations have increased in comparison to 2017. 25 cases of drug-trafficking were recorded in 2017, amounting to 24 kilograms of drugs.
