The new visa agreement signed between Maldives and neighboring India will be implemented in March.
Foreign Ministry revealed that the two countries came to an agreement during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's maiden visit to India, in order to provide ease to Maldivians entering India for different purposes. The facilitation of a more liberal visa process for citizens of both countries traveling between Maldives and India is expected to strengthen the bi-lateral relations between the countries.
The current visa challenges faced by Maldivians traveling to India for tourism, medical, education, business and employment purposes will now be resolved, informed Foreign Ministry.
Although lenient visa arrangements previously existed for Maldivians traveling to India, travelers faced difficulties after the relationship between India and Maldives got strained during former president Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's tenure.
