Drugs worth MVR 96k siezed by Customs

Drugs worth MVR 96,000 have been seized by Maldives Customs Service.

Customs Service revealed that the drugs were being smuggled in from Netherlands through courier. The parcel containing the drugs arrived in Maldives on Tuesday, and 32 grams of a suspicious white substance suspected to be drugs was discovered in the package upon inspection.

Further laboratory investigations revealed the powder to be cocaine, a strong stimulant mostly used as a recreational drug. Its worth is estimated to be MVR 96,000, informed Customs.

The drugs are now in police custody.

The number of drugs being smuggled in through courier has been on the rise in the recent months, with most packages originating from Netherlands.
