A small-scale tornado has ripped though Fonadhoo island of Laamu atoll during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 4.20am, where a twister damaged several households in the island. The roofs of some households were blown off, and several palms and trees were uprooted.
While the roofs of nine households were blown off, broken trees fell on the roofs of some houses, making the houses uninhabitable. Part of the outer wall surrounding a property also gave away, and two speedboats moored at the harbor received damages.
There were no reported casualties in the incident.
The police and the public are now working to assist those affected by the storm.
