A foreigner attempting to smuggle in drugs worth over MVR 3 million to the Maldives have been arrested by the police.
The police revealed via a tweet that 1.14kg of drugs were seized from a foreigner in a joint operation conducted by the police and Maldives Customs Service on Tuesday afternoon.
The police did not reveal the nationality or other information on the man arrested at Velana International Airport.
Earlier this week, the police found 149 kg of drugs buried in Huruvaarulu, an uninhabited island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll. Five people were arrested in connection to the case, with one being remanded 10 days into custody. Gaaf Dhaal Magistrate Court has ordered to detain the remaining four men in state custody until the end of their trial.
