Parliament committee seeks to dismiss Broadcom VP

Parliament committee on Independent Institutions on Tuesday made the decision to recommend the parliament to dismiss Vice President of Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) Ismail Sofwan from his post.

Members of Broadcom were summoned to the committee last Wednesday, where they were questioned regarding theirVice President, who did not present himself at the committee.

The commission members in attendance revealed to the committee that while Sofwan has failed to report to official duties for over nine months, his salary is withdrawn every month.

During Wednesday's committee meeting, it was proposed that Sofwan is dismissed from his post as the Vice President of the Broadcasting Commission due to his continued absence. The motion was passed with the agreement of all members present at the committee.

According to a letter sent to the committee by the Broadcom, Sofwan last reported for official duties during mid-November last year. While he was on leave from March 2019 until mid April, he has failed to return to office after his vacation.
