Madivaru Regional Airport to be opened within the year

The Regional airport being developed by Kuredu Holdings in Lh. Madivaru will be opened within the year.

Speaking at a news conference held at Transport Ministry Monday, State Minister Ahmed Zubair revealed that Madivaru Regional Airport will be opened this year, and work on constructing the runway is currently ongoing.

The construction of the airport along with a city hotel in Madivaru island was handed over to Kuredu Holdings, a subsidiary of renowned tourism company Crown and Champa Companies on 29th May 2018.

Previously used as a military training base, approximately US$ 50 million will be invested by the company for Madivaru island's airport development, the company has previously said.

The development of the airport has been sub-contracted to China's Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), the same company involved in many development work at Velana International Airport (VIA).
