Transport Minister to be questioned by parliament next week

Transport Minister Aishath Nahula will attend the parliament for questioning next week.

Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday, Secretary General of the Parliament, Fathimath Niusha revealed that Minister Nahula will respond to questions submitted by Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir.

Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, who filed the motion, will be questioning the Minister on why the authorities continue to penalize parking violations without offering a reasonable solution to the shortage in parking spaces in capital Male'.

MP Jabir has also filed a motion to summon Home Minister Imran Abdulla to inquire regarding the steps being taken by the government to avoid a circumstance similar to what led to former president Mohamed Nasheed's resignation.

Minister Imran is currently performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, a date has not been finalised yet to question the Home Minister, informed Niusha.

According to Parliament rules, if a person is summoned for questioning, a 14-day notice period excluding government holidays will be granted to the individual. However, both Minister Nahula and Imran failed to present themselves to the parliament for within the notice period granted by the parliament.
