Customs seize drugs being smuggled out to Sri Lanka

Maldives Customs have seized parcels of drugs being smuggled out to Sri Lanka.

Customs revealed the drugs which were being smuggled out to Colombo via air were discovered during the parcel screening process. While 99 pills which tested positive for 'ecstasy' were found, the street value of the drugs are around MVR 79,200, said Customs.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, although is it not clear whether an arrest has been made in connection to the smuggling.

Customs have seized 23.686 kg of drugs thus far this year.
