Drugs worth MVR 5.6 million seized

Maldives Customs Service has seized a large number of drugs from two men who arrived in the country from Brazil. Customs said the drugs were being smuggled through ingestion.

One of the men who were arrested was a 42-year old man who arrived at Velana International Airport (VIA) on the October 6. The man was checked on suspicions that drugs were hidden in his body. 837.2 grams of drugs were found upon searching, which tested positive to cocaine.

A 29-year old man who arrived in the Maldives from Brazil on October 25 was also intercepted. The man was checked upon arrival due to suspicions, and 765.5 grams of drugs were found.

Customs stated that the confiscated drugs have a total weight of 1.60 kg. The street value of the drugs is estimated reach MVR 5.6 million.

Customs said the two individuals as well as the confiscated drugs have been handed over to Maldives Police Services.
