A suspect arrested for stealing over MVR 100,000 from the home of an elderly couple on December 16 has been released.
Police confirmed that the man arrested from GDh. Gaddhoo was released on Monday before his remand period of 10 days expired. It is unknown whether the man was released after investigation was concluded.
The suspect in question robbed the home in Gdh. Gaddhoo when the man of the home left for Fajr (dawn) prayer in the early hours of December 16. The man is the Imam of Gaddhoo mosque, and leads the congregational prayers. The robber entered the home by breaking the door of the residence, and broke down the door of the cupboard to steal the cash. The wife of the Imam is bed-ridden.
The police earlier said MVR 95,000 and US$ 1000 was stolen from the home. Although the robber was arrested, the funds have not been recovered thus far.
