CEO of Children's Shelter suspended amid human rights probe

The CEO of the Children's Shelter in Villingili has been suspended.

When asked regarding the news, the media official of the Ministry of Gender confirmed that the CEO has been suspended over a case being investigated by the Human Rights Commission (HRCM).

"Ministry of Gender shared the decision with the CEO on Wednesday. The CEO is currently not in charge of any responsibilities of the children's shelter", said the official.

The suspension comes amid concern over a video that shows a child staying at the children's shelter recounting the abuse she faces at the shelter.

While the child's face was hidden in the one minute video, the sobbing girl told the audience about strict and uncaring caretakers at the shelter. The video is believed to be shot inside the shelter, and other children at the shelter are seen playing in the background.
