Cornetfish got pierced fisherman's neck

A fisherman is getting treated after getting stuck a cornetfish on his neck.

The cornetfish got pierced into the neck of the fisherman from L.Gan, Adam Naseer of “Niumai” dhoani. It got stuck in the dawn of Monday when he was baiting. The “Niumai” dhoani was in Vaavu Atoll at the time.

Speaking to AVAS, a family member of Adam Naseer said that once the incident happened they informed the MNDF – we checked if he can be taken to Male’ for further treatment.

“However, the MNDF said that there is no sea-ambulance in Vaavu Atoll. He had to be in Vaavu Atoll without further treatment, was able to bring him Male’ around 12:00 hours on Monday”

Naseer is getting treatment at the government’s main hospital IGMH at the moment – the cornetfish is now removed from his neck.

Vaavu Atoll is the atoll where the fishing vessels of southern atolls go for baiting. Fishermen have expressed anguish over not having easy access to Male’ from Vaavu Atoll in case of emergencies.
