Home Minister departs to India on official visit

Home Minister Imran Abdulla departed to India on an official visit.

According to Home Ministry, Minister Imran is visiting India on an invitation of India’s Home Minister.

Before departing to India, Minister Imran said the purpose of his visit was to discuss ways that both countries can work towards betterment of each other and revealed that discussions on the security of the Indian Ocean and internal security of the Maldives will be held during the visit.

Imran said that India has always been assisting and providing protection to the Maldives. Even though the relationship was shaken a few years back during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, it has now been reconciled, said Imran. He further said that both the countries must work jointly for the safety and security of the Indian Ocean.

Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Hameed accompanied the minister on his trip to India.

During the reign of president Yameen Abdul Qayyoom, the relationship between India and Maldives had deteriorated due to the administration fostering closer ties with China. However, since the current administration came into power, the government has reconciled with India and its long-term friendship with Indian has been recovered. The senior government officials of both countries have been visiting each other’s countries frequently.
