Maldivian in UK tests positive for COVID-19

A Maldivian has tested positive for COVID-19 in the United Kingdom.

A Maldivian doctor residing in the United Kingdom revealed via Facebook that his spouse had developed symptoms of COVID-19, and was confirmed to have the virus on Tuesday. She is doing well, he added.

The doctor wrote that he had been attending to COVID-19 patients for the past two weeks so it is likely that his wife contracted the virus from him. He is now in self isolation at home, and he has also developed some symptoms of the virus, he wrote.

Noting that the couple's child is homeschooled, the doctor said his child is now at risk of contracting the virus. However, she has not exhibited any symptoms thus far, he added.

Commenting on the matter, the Foriegn Ministry of Maldives said they have not received any official reports of the case. However, the ministry is now looking into the social media reports for confirmation, said the ministry.

16 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, out of which 14 are currently in the archipelago. Only one local has tested positive thus far, while the remaining patients are all foreigners.
