Over 100 police officers under quarantine

Over 100 police officers linked to COVID-19 cases have been quarantined, the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has revealed.

Speaking at the NEOC's press briefing on Tuesday night, NEOC spokesperson Mabrook Azeez said 130 police officers are currently quarantined, and details of their locations are yet to be received. While contact tracing is still ongoing, the total number of officers under quarantine may change, said Mabrook.

No police officers have tested positive for COVID-19 thus far. However, five army personnel have tested positive for the virus. Several MNDF personnel who had been in contact with the officers have been quarantined after possible COVID-19 exposure.

Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has stated that the government gives utmost priority to ensure the safety of frontline workers. Over 600 police and army officers are working in the frontlines to combat COVID-19, said the minister.
