Authorities have revealed that 14 army officers amongst the people who have tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, and could potentially be a large cluster.
The 14 officers who tested positive on Wednesday are working in the electrical and mechanical engineering workshop of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). Hence, the workshop has also been placed in quarantine.
The total number of people who tested positive for the virus in the Maldives has now reached 280, with one confirmed death.
Since the number of people who test positive has been increasing rapidly, the government has extended the lockdown imposed on the Greater Male' region for an additional 14 days. The lockdown was initially imposed until the end of this month when the first case of local transmission was detected in the capital.
