Authorities have revealed that five COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized at the Intensive Care Unit of Dharumavantha Hospital.
Maldives have recorded 280 positive cases of COVID-19 thus far, and confirmed its first fatality late Wednesday. 83 year old Aminath Adam, a primary contact of a positive case was pronounced dead at state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after she was brought to the hospital with breathing difficulties. She had already passed away by the time she was brought to the hospital, and her positive test result came back soon after her demise.
Speaking at a press conference held to brief the media on the update, Dr. Moosa Murad from National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) said four locals and one Pakistani national are currently receiving treatment at the DH11 ICU facility. The five people include an 80 year old, a 70 year old, a 60 year old and two people aged 40. Three out of the five patients have underlying medical conditions, said the doctor.
The doctor added that three patients are receiving oxygen therapy, although none of the patients have been put on ventilators thus far.
