COVID-19: Samples from elderly man discovered dead in Dhangethi being tested

Samples from an elderly person who passed away in ADh. Dhangethi are being tested for COVID-19.

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) on Friday said a 79-year old person was discovered dead by his family in Dhangethi, and samples from the deceased are being tested for COVID-19. The funeral processions for the deceased followed the procedure for burying those who die from COVID-19 and suspected cases of the deadly infection.

Earlier on Friday, a 79 year old who passed away was brought to state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in capital Male'. He was tested for COVID-19, but his tests came back negative.

The first COVID-19 related fatality in the Maldives was of an 83 year old woman who was brought to IGMH due to breathing difficulties on Wednesday. A primary contact of a positive case, she had already passed away by the time she was brought to the hospital. Her sample which was taken a few days earlier came back positive after her demise.
