COVID-19: Elderly patient on ventilator support at DH11

An elderly COVID-19 patient’s condition has deteriorated and is currently on ventilator support.

In the daily news brief held by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) on Sunday, Dr Mohamed Ali said the patient is an 88-year old man. As per reports, he is the widower of the patient who passed away due to COVID-19 last Wednesday.

Dr Mohamed Ali said the man was put on ventilator support on Sunday after his condition deteriorated due to low oxygen and blood pressure. However, his condition has not worsened since being put on ventilator support, said the doctor.

Five COVID-19 patients have been receiving treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital's DH11 ICU. They include an 80-year old local man, a 68-year-old local man, a 68-year old local woman and a 48-year old Pakistani national.

Dr Mohamed Ali said the 80-year old local is being given oxygen therapy while the conditions of the others remain stable.
