COVID-19: Defence force engineers develop ventilator prototype

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has developed a working prototype ventilator required by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

NEOC said MNDF's Service Corps' Signals successfully developed an emergency ventilator after working on the prototype for 14 days. Signals commenced the project on March 14, and used readily available electronic equipment spare parts to build the device.

A special ceremony was held on Monday to showcase the newly developed ventilator. Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi, Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamal and Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef were present at the ceremony.

MNDF said tests and trials will be conducted on the prototype before it is put to use.
