80-year old succumbs to COVID-19; toll rises to three

An 80-year old man receiving treatment for COVID-19 at Dharumavantha Hospital passed away late Thursday. This brings the Maldives' toll of COVID-19 related deaths to three.

The deceased had been receiving treatment at DH11 Intensive Care Unit for a while, and was on ventilator support at the time of his demise. An additional person at DH11 is also on ventilator support.

Since the first case of local transmission of COVID-19 was identified in capital Male' on April 15, the number of infections have been on the rise. The current tally is 648, and authorities expect a significant surge in positive cases over the next two weeks.
