Maldives records fourth COVID-19 related death

The Maldives on Wednesday recorded its fourth COVID-19 related death. The death raises the Maldives' toll to four.

The Health Protection Agency said an 88-year old Maldivian national admitted at the DH11 facility of Dharumavantha Hospital passed away late Wednesday. The deceased is a prominent Maldivian businessman, Hussain Abdulla, the founder and owner of leading trade company MHA. Hussain Abdulla was conferred the Order of Nishan Kalaafaanu in 2011. He also received the National Award of Recognition in 2005.

The Maldives has reported four COVID-19 related deaths thus far. Hussain Abdulla's 83 year old spouse was the first COVID-19 fatality in the Maldives, and passed away on April 30. Since then, a 33 year old Bangladeshi national and an 80-year old local infected with the virus have passed away.

51 new infections were detected in capital Male' on Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Maldives to 955. Wednesday’s cases include 12 Maldivians and 39 foreigners, including 26 Indians, 11 Bangladeshis, one Sri Lankan and one Nepali.
