An elderly woman from N. Manadhoo who had recovered from the COVID-19 passed away on Thursday.
According to reports, the 80-year-old woman passed away while being treated at the ICU after suffering a shock. Her entire family were at quarantine facilities at the time of her death.
The woman tested for COVID-19 after arriving in the Male' from her island, Manadhoo and upon her visit to the state-run IGMH with complaints of severe stomachache. Her results came back positive after she returned to the guest house she was staying at following treatment at the hopital. Several people who had been in contact with her were tested for the virus, of which nine people’s results came back positive. The Health Ministry last week declared that the woman had recovered from COVID-19
It is still unknown how she contracted the virus as she used to stay at home and how the virus reached Manadhoo. The island is among the two islands from which the most numbers of positive cases were detected other than the capital Male’. The other island that has a community spread is Sh. Narudhoo
Thus far, Maldives has recorded four COVID-19 related deaths. They are; three locals and a foreigner.
