Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has increased the number of ferries operated between the suburb Vilimale’ and the mainland, Male’ following the relief on some of the lockdown measures imposed on the capital Male’ region in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vilimale’ is a separate island near Male’, a suburb of Male.’ It takes about 5 minutes by a standard ferry boat to complete a trip in between Vilimale’ and Male’.
After the imposition of lockdown on April 15, MTTC reduced operation f public transportation services. Bus and ferry services were being carried out with special permission during limited times only.
However, on Sunday, MTCC said the company increased the number of ferries operated between Male’ and Vilimale’ from Saturday onward. Following this, there will be some relief for people who have to travel between the two wards during emergencies.
MTCC has been operating special cargo ferries between Gulhifalhu, industrial island Thilafushi and 11 atolls of the Maldives after imposition of the lockdown during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
