Pres dissolves Housing Ministry following resignation of minister

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday dissolved the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

According to the President's Office, the president used the executive authority vested upon him by Article 115 of the Maldives' Constitution to dissolve the ministry and effect an administrative reorganization of the government after Housing Minister Aminath Athifa Shakoor resigned from the post on Tuesday.

Under these changes, the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure will be renamed the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, and will take over the responsibilities of the dissolved Ministry. Staff previously employed at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will be transferred to the newly named Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. The ministry is headed by main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Mohamed Aslam.
