Police seize large amount of drugs in sting operation

Maldives Police Service have seized 6.8kg of drugs and arrested three locals in connection to the case.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Mohamed Hameed revealed on Twitter that the police have seized the narcotics in a sting operation they conducted in the reclaimed suburb, Hulhumale’ and confirmed that three Maldivians were arrested. CP Hameed said the street value of the seized cannabis are approximately MVR 5.6 million.

The police said one of the arrested persons was released after the meeting authority failed to find any drugs in his residence during a search. The remaining two people have been remanded for 15 days. The police said the three people are suspected of being involved in a drug network.

Maldives police have been taking stringent measures to combat the drug issue in the country. Recently large operations were conducted in the capital Male’.
