Ex-pres Maumoon urges to revert to strict safety measures

Former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom has urged not to relax lockdown measures imposed as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

The number of fatalities related to COVID-19 has started increasing over the past few days. Two people have passed away due to COVID-19 within the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 12.

Referring to the deaths, former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom said in a tweet that there is a need to reimpose strict precautionary measures based on the spread of the virus and the death toll, again .

“I urge authorities to start taking strict precautionary measure and implement such measures," said President Maumoon.

The government has eased most of the lockdown measures. Some schools and all government offices have reopened, and permits are no longer required to be out and about. Cafes and restaurants have resumed their normal operations. After the relaxation of movement restrictions, the most number of cases tested positive for COVD-19 was on Sunday. On Sunday, 33 people tested positive for the virus. An outbreak has now been linked to the state-run hospital, IGMH with 15 positive cases from the hospital.
