Daily COVID-19 stats: Tally at 2,731 with 67 new cases

The Maldives on Sunday recorded 67 new cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the new cases are of 52 Maldivians and 15 foreigners. This brings the total number of positive cases to 2,731.

HPA also announced 16 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,284. The number of active cases is 419, and 13 deaths have been recorded to date.

61,819 samples have been tested for COVID-19 thus far, out of which 1,602 samples were tested over the past 24 hours. Authorities said 353 individuals are currently at isolation facilities while 71 individuals are at quarantine facilities.

The Maldives relaxed most of the precautionary measures implemented to stop the spread of the virus after the number of positive cases began declining. However, the numbers seem to be on the rise once again. The archipelago recorded the most number of cases in a single day after lockdown was relaxed earlier on Friday with 64 new cases, and 47 were recorded the following day.
