Daily COVID-19 stats: 39 new cases, 12 recoveries

The Maldives on Tuesday recorded 39 new cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the new cases are of 27 Maldivians and 12 foreigners. This brings the total number of positive cases to 2,801.

HPA also announced 12 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,302. The number of active cases is 470.

The Maldives recorded an additional COVID-19 on Tuesday, raising the toll to 14. HPA said a 79 year old local woman receiving treatment at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility passed away at 5:05 pm.

63,559 samples have been tested for COVID-19. Authorities said 410 individuals are currently at isolation facilities while 47 individuals are at quarantine facilities.

The Maldives relaxed most of the precautionary measures implemented to stop the spread of the virus after the number of positive cases began declining. However, the numbers seem to be on the rise once again. The archipelago recorded the most number of cases in a single day after lockdown was relaxed earlier on Friday with 64 new cases.
