Daily COVID-19 stats: 17 new cases, 14 recoveries

The Maldives on Saturday recorded 17 new cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the new cases are of 13 Maldivians and 4 foreigners. This brings the total number of positive cases in Maldives to 2,930.

HPA also announced 14 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,354. The number of active cases is 546 and 15 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded thus far.

While a total of 66,609 samples have been tested for COVID-19, 948 samples were tested over the past 24 hours. Authorities said 433 individuals are currently at isolation facilities while 21 individuals are at quarantine facilities.

The Maldives relaxed most of the precautionary measures implemented to stop the spread of the virus after the number of positive cases began declining. However, the numbers seem to be on the rise once again, recording the largest increase in positive cases over the past weel.
