The Maldives on Wednesday recorded 59 new cases of COVID-19.
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the new cases are of 44 Maldivians and 15 foreigners. This brings the total number of positive cases in Maldives to 3,103. While 2,397 people have recovered from the illness thus far, no recoveries were announced on Wednesday. The number of active cases is 676 and 15 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded thus far.
While a total of 69,370 samples have been tested for COVID-19, 674 samples were tested over the past 24 hours. Authorities said 478 individuals are currently at isolation facilities, and none are at quarantine facilities.
The Maldives relaxed most of the precautionary measures implemented to stop the spread of the virus after the number of positive cases began declining. However, the numbers seem to be on the rise once again, recording the largest increase in positive cases over the past week.
