Latest COVID-19 stats: 17 new cases

The Maldives on Wednesday recorded 17 new cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the new cases are of 10 Maldivians and 7 foreigners. This brings the total number of positive cases in Maldives to 3,120. While 2,428 people have recovered from the illness thus far, 31 recoveries were announced on Thursday. This figure is equivalent to 80 percent of positive cases. The number of active cases is 626, out of which 53 are hospitalised. Although several patients are admitted at the hospital for observation, no patients are critically ill, said HPA.

While a total of 70,050 samples have been tested for COVID-19, 680 samples were tested over the past 24 hours. Authorities said 501 individuals are currently at isolation facilities, and none are at quarantine facilities.

The Maldives relaxed most of the precautionary measures implemented to stop the spread of the virus after the number of positive cases began declining. However, the numbers seem to be on the rise once again, recording the largest increase in positive cases over the past week.
