Daily COVID-19 stats: 55 new cases, 70 recoveries

The Maldives on Wednesday recorded 55 new cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the new cases are of 31 Maldivians and 19 foreigners. This brings the total number of positive cases in Maldives to 3,175.

While 2,498 people have recovered from the illness thus far, 70 recoveries were announced on Friday. This figure is equivalent to over 80 percent of total positive cases. The number of active cases is 647.

While a total of 70,845 samples have been tested for COVID-19, 795 samples were tested over the past 24 hours. Authorities said 531 individuals are currently at isolation facilities, and none are at quarantine facilities.

The Maldives relaxed most of the precautionary measures implemented to stop the spread of the virus after the number of positive cases began declining. However, the numbers seem to be on the rise once again, recording the largest increase in positive cases over the past week.
