The Maldives has failed to climb down from a three-digit daily figure of positive COVID-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day. The archipelago on Tuesday recorded 153 new cases of COVID-19.
According to the Health Protection Agency, HPA, the new cases are of 116 Maldivians and 37 foreigners. The new cases include five cases from the atolls and 148 cases from epicentre, capital Male’, and brings the total number of positive cases to 4,446.
HPA also announced 23 recoveries on Tuesday, increasing the number of recoveries to 2,683. While 19 deaths recorded thus far, with the most recent death occurring on Tuesday morning, the number of active cases is currently 1,719.
The Maldives recorded its largest spike in the number of positive cases earlier on Sunday with 215 cases. The numbers have been rapidly increasing since the Maldives lifted lockdown measures. Authorities have reimposed some restrictions in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.
