Over 100 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalised, authorities have revealed. This is the most number of COVID-19 patients admitted simultaneously in the Maldives.
The number of positive cases have been rapidly increasing over the past few days with the tally now reaching 4,446. The number of people hospitalized and those in critical condition has also been increasing during the current surge. 19 deaths have been recorded to date.
The Health Protection Agency, HPA said 105 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility and Dharumavantha Hospital. While two floors in Dharumavantha Hospital have been designated for COVID-19 patients, patients in critical condition are treated at the DH11 facility established in the Intensive Care unit of the hospital. DH16 has been designated for pregnant women who test positive for COVID-19.
According to the agency, 6 people are currently being treated in ICU, out of which two are in critical condition and are on ventilator support.
The Maldives has reimposed several restrictions in a bid to cut down infection rates. The new measures restrict home visits, movement from epicentre Male’, and a curfew.
