The Maldives on Sunday recorded 119 positive cases of COVID-19.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said the new cases are of 100 locals and 19 foreigners. The new cases have raised the Maldives' tally to 6,779.
HPA also announced 109 recoveries on Sunday, raising the total number of recoveries to 4,222. According to HPA, 2,531 positive cases are active across Maldives in capital Male', 22 islands and 12 resorts. Eight people are currently on ventilator support, and the Maldives have recorded 26 deaths to date.
Health officials have warned that the health care system is on the verge of being over burdened due to the high number of cases. Stricter measures may need to be implemented if the numbers do not fall, authorities have said.
