'Over 120 medical personnel have tested positive for COVID-19'

The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated that 121 medical personnel working in the frontlines have tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking at a press conference held by HEOC on Monday, Clinical Advisory Group member, Dr. Moosa Murad said the worsening situation in Maldives is a cause for concern. While the situation continues to deteriorate, shortage of health workers will be faced, and working for an extensive duration could cause exhaustion.

Dr. Murad noted that 121 medical personnel have tested positive for the virus thus far, which caused additional difficulties in managing human resources. Noting that increasing the capacity of human resources cannot be achieved over a short period of time, an increase in the number of positive cases would mean more challenges will be faced in ensuring an adequate number of health officials to cater to the ill.

The Maldives has recorded 6,912 positive cases and 27 deaths to date. While 2,588 cases are active, 4,297 recoveries have been recorded.
