Maldives' COVID-19 tally tops 8,000

The Maldives on Tuesday recorded 199 cases of COVID-19, crossing the 8000-case mark.

The Health Protection Agency, HPA said 168 cases were identified in capital Male’ while 31 cases were identified from the atolls. This is the largest number of positive cases recorded in a single day from among the atolls. According to HPA, the new cases registered on Tuesday are of 145 locals and 54 foreigners, raising the total number of cases to 8.003.

HPA also announced 119 recoveries over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,265. While one death was recorded earlier the same day, the total number of deaths is now at 29. This leaves 2,703 active cases, out of which 162 are being treated in hospitals.
